What to check before trusting a free statement converter
Free converters are everywhere. The differences that matter are not on the landing page.
Where does the file go?
Many tools upload your PDF to their server. Look for an explicit statement that processing happens in your browser, and read the privacy policy if the statement belongs to a client.
Does it check the totals?
A converter that outputs rows without checking them gives you no way to know if something was dropped. Opening balance plus transactions should equal closing balance.
Page and file limits
Free tiers often cap pages, so a long statement is cut off without an obvious warning. Check that the row count matches the statement.
Scanned files
Tools that use OCR can misread digits. Ask how the tool treats scanned statements and whether it warns you.
What happens to your data after
Check retention. If a file is uploaded, how long is it kept and who can access it?
